i'm still in love with anything wedding related.
and to satisfy this obsession, I had an idea to draw each of the 10 disney princesses in a wedding dress thats historically accurate (or culturally) fuzed with the official gown that Disney created for them.

this was inspired by :iconshoomlah:'s historically accurate disney princess series shoomlah.deviantart.com/galler… and the official disney princess inspired wedding dresses by Alfred Angelo www.disneybridal.com/

More than halfway through, Pocahontas is here!
her official disney gown:
she doesn't have one...but i based it off the dress she wore in Pocahontas II: Journey To A New World

Most of the historical aspects I got from Shoomlah. For Pocahontas, although I REALLLLYYYY wanted to draw a Native American outfit for her, I had to think in terms of historical accuracy....and because it was very hard to hunt down Powhatan Tribe wedding traditions. So i went this way: Since Pocahontas ended up falling in love and marrying Englishman John Rolfe (in the movie and in real life), I felt it was appropriate she'd wear the fashion of 1600s Elizabethan England.

I decided on the 1600s due to multiple reasons.
1) rewatched Pocahontas and the opening song literally says "In 1607, we sail the open seas"
2) looked at the fashion worn by the women in the second movie.
3) historically, real-life Pocahontas lived from 1595-1617

As for the design, I based it heavily on Queen Elizabeth I (and the movie with Cate Blanchett)

I wanted Pocahontas to look regal because in the movie, she did make friends with the Queen. During the 1600s, women wore their best gown when they got married, sometimes the wealthy would tailor a new one. High class and simple for our precious Pocahontas. At the same time, I kept her colors, including the "Colors of the Wind" sunset and leaves..OH and her mother's necklace, can't go without that one. Again, no veil or white dress because they didn't become widely popular til the late 1800s.

Side note, I never noticed how similar Germany's and Spain's outfits were to England's at the same time period. Wish I had figured that out earlier with Snow White's.

Hope you all enjoy this series.
